RM38,000 annually from rubber tapping

A rubber smallholder can now earn up to RM38,000 annually following the increase in the price of the commodity in the world market.

An operator with a two-hectare holding could earn the amount if he used the Low Intensity Tapping System which only required him to tap the trees nine times a month.

The high demand for Malaysia’s natural rubber and rubber products were expected to continue in the next several years thus smallholders are urge to take advantage of the situation by raising their productivity. Operators should also adopt new tapping methods for better and quality yields.

Last year, Malaysia produced about 1.2 million tonnes of natural rubber and generated about RM18 billion from it.

Presently, the country is the third largest producer of natural rubber after Thailand and Indonesia.
