Rising water warning issued

Rise in water level in Sibu over past few days just normal occurrence and is not worrying: Committee

SIBU: The chairman of Sibu Divisional Disaster and Relief Management Committee yesterday issued a notice to the relevant authorities and members of the public concerning the rising water level here.

The notice, issued by acting Resident Ismail Mohd Hanis, reads as follows:

“The rise in water level in Sibu division over the past few days is just a normal occurrence, and is not worrying. Heavy rain in the upper reaches of Rajang River over the past few days is the culprit. However, the high water level has receded and that many affected roads are now passable by small vehicles.

“The Divisional Disaster and Relief Management Committee, together with district-level committees are on alert and are fully prepared to face any eventuality.

“Officers in every district office are also monitoring the situation, especially on areas prone to flooding, in order to have a better picture of the situation, particularly in and around Sibu town.
“Since the weather is fair and water level in major rivers here are at manageable level, the disaster operation rooms in all district offices in Sibu Division are only operational during normal office hours.
